Meeting Report: September 25th, 2009
This week we had Andrea and Matt Handy at the Center for Student Innovation (MAKE Club’s awesome new meeting space) present photos and talk of their experiences from a recent trip to Maker Faire: Rhode Island

Andrea later shared pictures of cool hand-made sweaters that she had designed and knit, and Matt shared pictures of the Lotus kit car he built in his garage.

Meeting Report: May 8, 2009
On May 8, 2009 Make met in the new Center for Student Innovation and spoke with the Director, Dr. Ian Gatley. This was our final meeting for the 2008-’09 academic year. We discussed projects, our goals, and possible future collaborations with the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
Make met with Associate Professor Clark Hochgraf and learned about his [electric] “e-bike” movement. We even got to take one of the bikes out for a spin. E-bikes function as a great way to spread awareness of electric vehicles, and serve as a platform for developing neat related projects (think autonomous e-bikes, or e-bikes that charge when parked in solar-powered bike racks). Make may collaborate with Professor Hochgraf in the future on e-bike projects.
The next Make meeting will be in the Fall of 2009. Stay tuned to this website and the Google group for more information.
Meeting: All hands. Hackerspace brainstorming, show and tell.
Exciting news! Dr. Ian Gatley, the new Director of the Center for Student Innovation, has granted us permission to meet at the CSI this Friday (the big round building). We will meet at 6PM in the lobby of the building.
As mentioned in the post for the last meeting, we have an opportunity to compile a list of what we might like (tools, equipment, materials, etc.) in an ideal “hackerspace” tinkershop. Pleas bring an open mind and perhaps a list of things you think might be helpful to have around some day.
Also on the agenda is a show and tell session. If you would like to demonstrate a project that you have been working on, please bring it to the meeting. This will be a great opportunity to get others interested in your ideas and find collaborators.
Meeting: All hands. Preparation for ImagineRIT
- Make at Imagine RIT 2008
This Friday, May 1, Make will have an all-hands meeting in preparation for ImagineRIT on May 2. We will discuss the booth Make will have on Saturday and plan what we’ll show. If you have something you would like to present before a large audience of people, ImagineRIT is the perfect venue. Consider showing us what you’ve got beforehand at the club meeting on Friday.

Meeting: Arduino Demo
Make Club is scheduled to have its forth meeting of the ’08-09 year on Friday April 17, 2009 at 6PM in room 13-1380 on the RIT campus (the Honors/Study Abroad building). Ronald Jett will be leading a demo with the Arduino microcontroller platform.
As the Arduino website concisely states, “Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. “
If you’d like to see what Arduino is all about, what it has to offer, and maybe tinker with electronics, come to 13-1380 on Friday. Feel free to bring your own Arduino–or Arduino-based project–if you have one. We may cut the meeting a bit short so those interested can attend ArtAwake.
